The region

Quinta da Cumieira stands 450 mtrs above sea level in a very beautiful part of the Minho in the Northern part of Portugal, approximately 1 hour's drive east of Porto airport. The Minho is known as the garden of Portugal and one of the most productive agricultural regions of Portugal.

The Quinta

Surrounded by 7.5 acres of vineyards fruit and nut trees, it is bordered by the river Peio on the south/west side. Quinta da Cumieira is a wine making farm. We make our own wine called Vinho Verde, a specialty from the region and from the grapeskins we make gin, called "aguardente". We use some of this gin to make diverse liquors like lemon, fig, prune, kiwi etc. And what about apple sauce from our own apples or picking wild strawberries. Our water supply comes from our own well and tastes like delicious fresh spring water.

The accommodation

Quinta da Cumieira, originally a 17th century farm, was converted into a charming house, and now provides the owners accommodation. It has the relaxed atmosphere of a very comfortable country house and is run by it's owners with the help of a small staff. The property features two twin rooms on the first floor in the quinta, each with a private en-suite bathroom. Situated between the vineyards there are two luxury furnished tents with a private bathroom inside each offering accommodation for max. 4 persons. Here you have what feels like the luxury of a hotel suite but with the adventure of camping in nature. It is aptly named Glamping or GLAMOROUS CAMPING

The swimming pool

Around the swimming pool, measuring 15x4 mtrs, there is a pool house with a bar and bbq area, together with a terrace for sun bathing and enjoying outdoor meals, a cool beer or a good glass of our own Vinho Verde wine.

All this makes Quinta da Cumieira the perfect retreat after visiting the wine cellars of Porto, a walk through the Serra da Cabreira or a day of sightseeing in nearby Guimarães, Braga or Amarante.
